Polk Apartments

Learn more about living in our Polk apartments

Often considered one of the true melting pots in San Francisco, Polk - or Polk Gulch, as it’s commonly referred to - is a hub of unique traditions, historic buildings and Polk apartments, local businesses and residents who create a tapestry of culture for locals and visitors to enjoy.

Polk Street runs from Market Street to Beach Street, cutting through more well-known areas like Nob Hill, Russian Hill and the Tenderloin. While the area may be referred to by some as Lower Nob Hill or the Tendernob, many residents in nearby Polk apartments choose to honor the neighborhood’s identity as a unique spot all its own. Despite Polk Street’s progressive past - it was the site of SF’s first Gay Pride Parade in the early 1970s - the neighborhood became a haven for a seedy crowd. Though some of the more colorful businesses still exist along the area’s commercial thoroughfares, additions like bike lanes and locally owned bars and restaurants have ushered in a new crowd of visitors who love discovering Polk’s hidden gems.

Sleek Polk Street restaurants include Zagat-rated hotspots like 1760, Gioia Pizzeria, Reverb Kitchen and Bar, Blue Barn Polk Street, Amelie and Leopold’s, all of which top local foodies’ lists of must-visit restaurants near Polk apartments. Lesser-known eateries and clubs like Brenda’s French Soul Food, Cresta’s Twenty-Two Eleven Club, The Grubstake and Cordon Bleu Vietnamese Restaurant appeal to locals looking for something other than the glossy business fronts the area is becoming known for.

Getting around the neighborhood is easy, thanks to its walkability and reliable transit options (the 19 bus runs directly along Polk between Market Street and the waterfront), and SF’s iconic cable car system, light rail stops and BART stations are just steps from most Polk apartments. Neighborhood parks give Polk residents and visitors a place to stretch out and soak in the sunshine, and local businesses boast DJ sets and nightly karaoke as the perfect spots to dance and rub elbows with neighbors and friends. There’s never a shortage of things to do in Polk, located right off US-101 and minutes from I-80 and I-280.

The Golden Gate City might be known for Mission burritos, winding streets, the “Full House” house and, of course, the Golden Gate Bridge, but there's more to SF than tourist destinations. For a chance to live in an up-and-coming part of the city, just minutes from reasonable Polk apartments and incredible waterfront views, head over to Polk and become a part of the neighborhood’s ever-changing identity.
