Sarah Khu
As a professional recruiter, Sarah Khu has been especially attuned to diversity in the workforce – “I make sure I present a diverse pool of candidates and am always looking for ways to increase it,” she says – but says her background has given her additional insight into the process.
“I was born in Korea and came here when with my family when I was 4,” Sarah says. “It was the early 70s, and the emphasis was on immersion - speaking proper English with your friends at school and fitting in. But I still lived in a very Korean house. My parents only spoke Korean at home, meals were Korean, so I had to do a lot of juggling.” The result? “I felt like a multi-cultural superhero,” Sarah says with a laugh. “American by day, Korean by night.”
When it came time to apply for the Diversity Council, Sarah was ready. “When I interviewed with Equity I was asked, ‘What does diversity mean to you?’ I’d never been asked that before – I knew then that I wanted to work here, a place where diversity was very much valued by both the company and the individuals as well.”
