James Berkley
When James Berkley, Leasing Consultant at The Marks in Englewood, CO, graduated from college last year, he had two experiences that helped shape his vision of the future. The first, a month-long backpacking trip across 7 countries, was an opportunity to grow and learn from other cultures. The second experience was enlightening, but in a completely different way.
“I moved to Colorado when I got back from my trip, and took a job at a place that treated people, both customers and employees, badly,” James said. A friend of a friend told him about Equity, so he decided it was time to change jobs. “When I got here, the culture was amazing. The initiatives, like the Diversity Council and the Green Team, told me the company had a pro-active approach.”
“I knew I needed to be a part of this.”
Before landing in Colorado, James described his upbringing as one that didn’t offer “a lot of experience with diversity. I went to predominantly white schools and then to Western New England College, a small, private school in Massachusetts,” he said. Given where he is today, James says, “interacting with individuals who have lives greatly different from mine is an important part of life and essential for growth.”
